Back in New Zealand and how not to get there

Hello all...yeah well who said life wasn't exciting....I'll start at the beginning...after we came back off the Tuitai life sort of just drifted for a bit and we just enjoyed each others company...we had a quick stint at giving up smoking but came to a screaming stop when we stayed at my Aunty Carrie's for a few hours before leaving Savusavu for Suva...she smokes like a train and so before long we had a ciggie in the mouth and a complete attitude change...seems I was a touch short tempered when I gave up for a few days...so anyway we were both back smoking and back into calm mode when we climbed aboard the ferry back to Suva.
The ferry we caught was the Sofe and we had learnt not to travel economy on these ships...we booked a cabin and boarded the vessel for our 12 hour trip to Suva...a friend of the family was on the ship with her husband and we had found out it was her brother that owned the ship...well we thought, all will be good...but alas that was not the case as the cabin next to ours was taken by a very drunk man who spent the night trying to get young ladies to visit with him....he made so much noise yelling and laughing we got hardly any sleep at all....in the morning we found our friend whose brother owns the ship and she asked how we slept...I had no trouble telling her about the noise from the next cabin and how I wanted to throw the bugger over the side for all the noise he made...at this point her husband pointed at a guy and asked me if he was the troublemaker....on replying yes he said that it was his wifes other brother that had been all the trouble and cracked up laughing...some joke but yes funny after a bit...

Arriving in Suva we were picked up by my mums brother, Uncle Mike, who dropped us at his daughter, my cousin, Edwina's place...we were going to be staying here for the rest of our stay in Fiji...Edwina's husband Alex is tech freak...we had a huge plasma screen tv in the lounge to play any of about 1000 DVD's he had on and then he showed us the roll down screen for the home theatre real movie experience...to tell you I was like a kid in a toyshop was an understatement...Judith looked at the smile on my face and told Alex that I was probably going to move in permanently on one of the big recliner chairs and spend my days watching Stargate the series which he had all of...nothing is ever as good as you think it is...Judith had me out shopping and when we would get back she would watch Alias which was a series that Judith got very involved in watching...no Stargate for me but Judith was very happy to see the Alias series...

We would spend some evenings at my cousin Agnes' place seeing her family and my grandmother...Nana almost elbowed me out of the way to get to Judith to give her a hug when we arrived...so much for me being number 1 grandson...Nana looks great and it was fun to meet Agnes after 23 years and see her kids and her husband Tom who is a copper...they all treated us like royalty and it was a very friendly and enjoyable atmosphere...we took heaps of pictures and I even got to meet Manasa a childhood friend who used to get into trouble with me as a kid...he has 4 kids of his own now and is very happy...

The night before we left Fiji we had a small incident...it seems that when you are driving along a straight bit of road in your cousins car and a truck is coming the other way you should be aware that it might jump across the road, over the traffic island, bouncing on only 2 wheels and try to convert the car you are driving into scrap metal...I managed to stomp on the brakes and slow us enough that it only took out the front of the car and in the process the truck ended up rolling over onto it's side...we were spun around on the road and a crowd of about 1000 people arrived from nowhere in seconds all telling us that they had seen what happened and that we should take a cab to the hospital as there was no ambulance...I did a quick check of my beautiful lady, then my cousin and her 4 year old daughter to see if everyone was ok...Judith had some seatbelt marks from her shoulder to her hip from the impact but other than that everyone looked ok...I was not happy, as you can imagine, when I got to the other driver and started telling him the error of his ways...the police arrived and I asked that transport be arranged so the girls could all get checked out at the hospital...the copper was awesome and told us to get in his police pursuit car and he took us there personally...we screamed along the road back into Suva under lights and sirens...Judith reckons it's the only time I've travelled in a police car without handcuffs....It's actually the second time...anyway we arrived at the hospital and the girls were all taken in for examination...all came out ok ...the police had to take statements from us and told us the truck driver would be charged...we had to leave to catch our flight about 4 hours after we were released from hospital...

We took the bus to Nadi Airport and arrived there very sore and lacking sleep...some problems with our luggage being 40 kilos over which the ticketing guy eventually only charged us for 20 kilos...on the flight we had a well deserved rest and in the light of day realised how lucky we had been...

Arriving in Auckland, New Zealand, my home country we were met by cold weather and a freezing wind...we set ourselves up in a backpackers and went touring around the city...

Now it just so happens that the All Blacks play their first game in Europe the night after we arrived...Judith could not work out why I would get up at 4 am and go to the pub to watch the game against Wales...she wanted no part of it and stayed in bed when I got up...she missed the All Blacks kicking Welsh butt all over the paddock and she was awake when I went back to the room at 9:00am to see her...she was sitting up in bed waiting fully dressed...she gave me an evil look and then realised from my grin that my team had won...she came down to the pub to meet a pom called Scott who had enjoyed the game with me over a couple of beers..."honestly it was just a couple honey"...we were a little bit drunk and Judith could do nothing but laugh at us both trying to talk Dutch...we had a couple more then went for breakfast...then back to the room for a well deserved nap...

And so I end up here at the internet cafe writing away as Judith corrects all my spelling errors and slaps my wrist telling me I can't write something...I'm still a bit drunk but life goes on...tomorrow it's time to find a job...

Love you all and let me know what you like or don't like about our blogsite and I will endeavour to change it....Rob and Judith
