Paihia here we come

Long time no hear...

Well Judith and I have been head down and bum up working our little fingers to the bone since we last wrote on here...Judith is still working at the restaurant but is looking for something else as am I...our current jobs pay the bills and let us save some but they are not conducive to a real life together...we both want 9-5 jobs downtown that pay humungous amounts of money for minimal input from us...only problem is that all those jobs are already taken by the government...hehehehe

Judith and I went to Paihia recently for the weekend to have a break from Auckland and to see a friend whose woking there at a little B&B...you know who you are Lesley...but before I go down that path I'll tell you about the night before we left for Paihia...

A Mate of mine from school days Brent and his beautiful wife Rosemary invited us to Waiheke Island for dinner and drinks...as I work a bit of a distance from home and am dependent on public transport we were running about 5 mins late to catch the ferry to the island...on the way we stopped at an ATM to get some money for the tickets etc...as we are punching in all the details into the ATM it decides to shut itself down and spit our card back...no problems so far...our card had a tiny bend in one corner and got caught in the machine...the ATM is telling us to take our card but we can't see it...finally the bloody machine just swallows the card and shuts down...Judith and I looked at each other and just about cried...we had to run to the ferry and pay by credit card while phoning the bank to get the card recovered..."Yes sir we should have the card back within 14 days"...."No you bloody moron we are off to Paihia tomorrow and need money"...conversation wasn't very helpful...

Anyway we made the ferry and were picked up by Brent and shown around the island and finally brought to his bach...overseas readers please note that a bach is a kiwi holiday house...well we've already explained how small our apartment here is...the bach's toilet is bigger than our lounge room...Brent and Rosemary entertained us and fed us with a awesome BBQ and some of Brents personal wines...we left there with Brents help..."Thanks Mate"...and got the last ferry back to Auckland a little bit tipsy...

After a few hours sleep we arose to head up to the bank in the casino to get money for the weekend in Paihia...then off to pick up a rental car...looked more like a pregnant roller skate...and headed back to the apartment to grab our gear...inside of the Daihatsu 5 door is bigger than our bedroom...and finally headed to Paihia...

Judith is still feeling a bit anxious in cars so we took our time and all was well when she suddenly yelled.."STOP!!!!!!!"...as a good boyfriend does I slammed on the brakes expecting to see a child or small dog in front of the car...after not seeing anything I looked at my beautiful lady and saw her looking to the left at a sign that said "Dutch Deli"...needless to say we spent the next 45 minutes wandering around the place and my arms filled with mayonaisse,,,cheese slicers...etc etc...whatever keeps my lady happy..

Finally arriving in scenic Paihia we looked for Lesley..."ummmm...honey do you have the address or name of Lesley's place???"...."you have it don't you" my blonde beauty answers me....hehehe...so with no knowledge of where Lesley was we just went to the first place and asked for her...the woman was very nice but couldn't help...so we called Rich and Kaz somewhere in the South Island...they told us the relevent information and we proceeded to Cap'n Bob's to meet her and settle in...Paihia is such a beautiful and relaxing place..

We went for lunch at a small takeaway and got a feed of fish n chips...had to teach my lady how to eat them properly so they didn't go cold...that night we took Lesley out for a drink and caught up on her travels and excitement with a hurricane in the Carribbean as well as her conversion to becoming a triathlete..we will be there to support her at her first race...

We got to see Waitangi and a few other places in the area before setting off back to Auckland on the sunday...on the way back we diverted to Tutukaka to have a look at the dive shops and plan a return for diving when we are more financial...

well must get going as Judith finishes work soon and we need to start getting things ready as her father is coming over from the Netherlands on the 1st March to visit for 3 weeks...we are both looking forward to it and Judith has been like a school girl giggling all over the place since he confirmed his trip...I have never met him so I am a bit nervous...plan to just be myself but failing that I will bribe him with beer...sounds like a plan...take care all and thanks for all the emails...we do try to answer all of them

Love Rob and Judith
